Another one bites the dust..

I have decided that I am going to have to find a twelve step programme for my addiction to the Occupy London/St Paul’s saga. Apologies for anyone who is heartily sick of me banging on about it…but

BUT!  ANOTHER ONE HAS RESIGNED FROM THE CATHEDRAL!!!  THIS TIME THE DEAN!  OK shouting bit over now.

Could it have got any more surreal?  Three of the most important figures in the life of the Cathedral have resigned with their consciences in the face of the Cathedral’s decision to seek an eviction of the protesters.  The more vociferous the City of London Corporation and the Cathedral become, the stronger the will of the protestors to stay it seems.  It truly is a parable being played out in contemporary times.  Yet, it is still impossible to understand where it will end.  Although on one hand the opposing forces and their battle seem so obvious, on the other, it turns up a new surprise every day.

And today also the news that the Greek Prime Minister has announced a referendum on the Greek austerity measures and the bailout package.  The news has sent shock waves through Europe, not only because apparently it was unexpected, but also because of the likely outcome.  If the Greeks reject the measures the recent hand wringing and debt-write-off wrangling will have been in vain. It also puts us right back to square one in terms of a likely pan-European recession.

Meanwhile the OECD has downgraded economic growth projections globally.

So…as I said two days ago…what next???
